Apparently, S took this while I was in the shower this morning. I guess this would qualify as her last photo. I found it a little while ago, when I was getting some other photos off of my camera.
It went as well as could be expected. It was fast, and then she was at peace. I spent some time with my face buried in her fur, taking in her smell for the last time, and absorbing her residual warmth.
It’s hard to think that I will never hear her purr, her little chirps and meows again. I miss her already, terribly. I don’t want to go to bed, because she won’t be there.

Two totally unrelated things
1. So, S and I have been talking about next year’s spring break trip, and we’ve decided that if Sock Camp is a no-go that week, then we’ll both go to DC. He wants to take the train, and DC is close enough to do that without losing too much time traveling. I’d like to start making plans, but I want to confirm first that Sock Camp will NOT be the week after Easter.
2. My vet has informed me, that when the time comes, there’s a pathologist at the vet school in Madison that would like my cat. On the one hand, I won’t have any remains, and I’m totally traumatized at the though of her little body being mailed to Madison, sloshing around in a jar of formalin (or something like that). On the other hand, he’ll do the necropsy for free and thinks there might be a paper in it. And she might be able to help other kitties. (And now I’m going to cry again, dammit.)

Urgent Question!!
I’m going to a wedding tonight, with or without S depending on if he gets home from work in time.
What the hell do you wear to a wedding on a Friday night? I’m screwed any way I look at it – all of my dresses are too big (because of the weight loss), including my go-anywhere black dress. (Is it OK to wear a black dress to weddings these days???)
I need to head to the mall in a little while, but I have NO CLUE what to look for! It’s going to be chilly tonight, and it’s a small (<50) wedding, but that doesn’t help. I can’t go with a sleeveless dress (chilly plus bonus flabby arms – sleeveless is impossible), which is mostly what I’ve seen.
Aaaarrgh!
Bonus question! What do you get for the couple as a gift??? First wedding for her (I think), second for him. Both are 40ish (her a little younger, him a little older). I’m clueless here, too. They don’t need anything, but I feel dumb just getting a gift card. Maybe I’ll head to Crate & Barrel and see if inspiration strikes…
Update: No more worries. I found a great dress at Macys – black, but with a low-key print. It’ll look great. And the Crate & Barrel gift card will be fine. I’m worried about nothing. I’ve known the groom for a looooong time, and if I had time, I’d get them a Cabela’s gift card (totally more his style, but Cabela’s is a little more of a drive than I want to take), but his wife-to-be should appreciate the C&B card.
